Is there anything cooler than a classic Aston Martin? How about a rare, hot-rodded version of a classic Aston Martin? Well, today we are drooling over just such a car and it just might be the pinnacle of coolness. We are talking about an absolutely stunning 1960 Aston Martin DB4GT. This is a car that enjoyed a successful racing career and yet today is presented in showroom condition, original engine and all! Forget cool, this car is ice-cold. So, what makes the DB4GT so much more desirable than other Astons of its era? Well, for one thing, just 75 were built. For another thing, the performance is incredible.
For those unfamiliar, the Aston Martin DB4 GT was the high-performance version of the DB4. To that end, the designers used thinner aluminium body panels to save weight. The engine, available in both 3.7- and 3.8-litre displacements, was also enhanced to produce more power. Compared to the standard car’s 240-bhp output, the GT upped the ante considerably – to the tune of 302 bhp. As you can imagine, the car’s performance was correspondingly improved. Top speed was improved to the tune of 12 miles per hour, for a grand total of 151. Acceleration, however, was where the real transformation took place. Whereas the original DB4 required a rather leisurely 9.3 seconds to reach 60, the DB4GT absolutely smoked that car with a blistering 6.1-second 0 to 60 time. A shorter wheelbase gave the Aston Martin DB4GT livelier handling, but it also means that most, like today’s drool car, do not feature a rear seat.
This beautiful Snow Shadow Grey Aston is for sale at Tom Hartley Jnr in Derbyshire, England. Here is what they have to say about it:
One of only 75 GTs ever produced and fresh from a complete nut & bolt restoration by marque experts. A car that enjoyed a huge amount of period race history and achieved much success including 1st place finishes and countless lap records at some of the UK’s finest circuits. Continuing to race until recent years and remarkably still today retains its original engine. Restored back to its original stunning colour combination and most recently displayed at the 2018 Concours of Elegance held at Hampton Court Palace.
I still can’t get over how gorgeous this car is. The restoration is just picture-perfect, from the red Connolly Leather to the pristine engine bay. As you would expect, the epitome of cool will cost more than your standard Ford Fiesta. In fact, you could buy approximately 220 Fiestas for the £2,850,000 asking price of this Aston. Is that too much money to spend on just one car? Check out those pictures again and decide for yourself.
