If you collected your brand new McLaren 600LT from the dealership, you would be careful taking it out on the road for the first time, yes? Not so a man from Coquitlam, a town in Vancouver, Canada. Clearly excited at his new toy, powered by a glorious 3.8litre, twin-turbocharged engine that can produce almost 600bhp, he decided to see just how fast he could go.
Unsurprisingly, the Vancouver police caught him doing 161 km/h (100mph) in a 90km/h zone. This was on June 17th, and the driver had picked up the car and headed out to the west-bound Highway 1 just ten minutes before he was stopped.
A press release from West Vancouver Police states:
“While the officer was conducting the investigation, the driver allegedly stated that they had just left the dealership after purchasing the vehicle, 10 minutes prior.”
Very High Performance
Of course, we understand that those with high-performance supercars such as this want to enjoy that performance, but we also respect other road users, and the busiest highway in Vancouver was not the place to test a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of just 2.9seconds!
The 600LT features suspension and other systems derived from the McLaren P1, and is capable of around 204mph at top speed. The driving characteristics of this lightweight, carefully developed supercar are widely regarded as among the best in the world, and this driver was all too eager to test them out. Further comment from West Vancouver Police explained:
“While we get closer to the July long-weekend, which typically means more vehicles on the road, West Vancouver Police want to remind everyone to obey all speed limits and drive responsibly.”
The 39 year-old driver was given a ticket for excessive speeding, at a cost of $368, and had his $256,000 (£200,000) McLaren impounded for 7 days.
Remember, drive carefully, no matter how fast your car is capable of going!
