A cheap Rolls-Royce is one of those eternal myths. Sure, if you want you can buy yourself a 1980’s Silver Spirit for the price of a second hand Ford Mondeo – and then spend the price of a second hand Ford Mondeo running it for a year – but we’re talking modern generation Rolls-Royce.
Yet, Bob Moseley, a Hollywood movie prop-car supplier known to online followers as Videobob, has picked up a 2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom for the equivalent of £50,000. That’s small money for such a car. OK, so it’s not perfect – he’s put a video of his new ride on YouTube – but for the money, it’s a hell of a lot of car!
Needs Work
Bob admits the car needs work, but that’s no problem for a man who works with cars day to day. It’s been used as a wedding and events car – it shows the signs of use as a result – and is finished in the requisite white and black, but despite a couple of faults, it’s in pretty good shape all-round.
The car has a leak at the front – the 38-minute video is a warts-and-all depiction of a work in progress – and there are some trim items missing, but Bob reckons a bit of hard work will get this once beautiful car back to tip-top condition. This is, apparently, a dream car for Bob, who owns more than his fair share of exciting machinery.
Aftermarket Wheels
The wheels on the car are non-standard, having been replaced by the previous owner, and one of the wheel arches has suffered damage in the past, but that’s nothing Bob can’t handle thanks to his expertise in the field of car repairs and props.
Is this the cheapest Rolls-Royce Phantom in the world? It’s certainly a contender, and we wish Bob all the best in his future with his dream machine.
