The jaw-dropping Lamborghini Sián Roadster, presented in stunning ‘Blu Uranus’ finish at the spectacular launch, is the most powerful roofless super sports car that the marque has ever produced. With 819hp from the combined V12 petrol and hybrid motors, this is a car that will certainly give you that ‘wind in the hair’ feeling. If, that is, you’re lucky enough to be one of the 19 buyers who have already commissioned their example.
Yes, as is often the case with supercar specials, the Lamborghini Sián Roadster is sold out. Limited to just 19 examples – each of which will be personalised to the owners taste by the Centro Stile department, who have give the launch car an alluring finish by matching the blue paintwork with ‘Oro Electrum’ wheels – a colour that Lamborghini emphasises is significant of electrification. This is as technically advanced a car as you will find anywhere in the world today.
Beauty or Beast?
In keeping with a number of specials of late, the Sián Roadster is not a convertible – there is no roof. The interior is as spectacular as the gloriously, unmistakably Lamborghini styling, with the white and blue finish – again, each one will be individually specified – neatly complementing the exterior paintwork. Is it beautiful?
Where rival Ferrari works with curves and flowing lines, Lamborghini abandoned that line of design decades ago. The Countach and Diablo may have been extreme, but the latter-day family of models from the Sant‘Agata factory encapsulate sharp edges and an aggressive stance. The Sián is perhaps the most aggressive of them all. This writer would not call the Sián Roadster beautiful, but striking. Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder.
The Spirit of Lamborghini
Here’s CEO and Chairman Stefano Domenicali talking about the Sián Roadster:
“The Sián Roadster encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini. It is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies. The Sián’s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for Lamborghini super sports cars, and the open-top Sián Roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle Lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding new solutions.”
We can’t argue with any of that; the world is turning hybrid, it is the way forward. Yet, within the parameters of finding new answers, Lamborghini still holds dear its heritage. The petrol engine is a V12, the ‘next generation’ powerplant, and is coupled with an advanced hybrid ‘super capacitor’ motor. The important bits are here: 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 2.9seconds, and more than 350km/h (217mph) top speed. In an age where the supercar is sometimes dismissed as an anachronism, as something contrary to the needs of the world, we at Supercartribe welcome the technological advances that come about when brilliant people try and find a way to make very fast cars more efficient. And when they take the roof off, we like it even more. The Lamborghini Sián Roadster is everything a Lamborghini of the 21st century should be.
